Tarık Ongun
FIFA assistant referee who worked on the Fulham–Hamburg UEFA Europa League semi-final.
Life and work
The story behind the role.
Born in Istanbul in 1973, he graduated from Kadıköy Anadolu High School and Istanbul Technical University’s management-engineering programme. Before refereeing he played goalkeeper for school and university teams.
His 2010 TFF interview describes a refereeing career that began at age 27 and progressed to FIFA assistant-referee status. He worked alongside Cüneyt Çakır in the Fulham–Hamburg Europa League semi-final.
Outside football, the interview records work in sales and marketing, including a senior role in real estate, and qualification as a scuba-diving instructor.
