Life and work
The story behind the role.
Irmak Hürmeriç Altunsöz is a motor development and physical education researcher. Irmak Hürmeriç Altunsöz completed METU physical education degrees in 1996–2000 and 2000–2003, followed by an Ohio State doctorate in 2006–2010.
Her doctoral work evaluated motor-skill interventions, object-control skills and perceived competence among disadvantaged children. Irmak Hürmeriç Altunsöz was a METU research assistant in 2001–2006 and an Ohio State physical-education teacher-education research assistant in 2006–2010.
Irmak Hürmeriç Altunsöz returned to METU as assistant professor in 2011–2018; the official record lists associate professorship from 2018. Irmak Hürmeriç Altunsöz served as department head in 2018–2021 and is listed as deputy department head from 2025. Her research and graduate supervision connect physical activity, motor competence and children’s physical education.
