Life and work

The story behind the role.

Gülay Özen is presented by the Council of Europe as a Ministry of Youth and Sports expert. Her work addresses sexual harassment, interpersonal violence and gender equality in sport.

Her background combines physical-education teaching qualifications, postgraduate sports-management study and a doctorate in social fields of sport sciences. She previously taught and coordinated the Turkcell Those Running to the Future project, including work on cycling for visually impaired participants.

Her publication record includes a 2019 study of athletes’ perceptions and experiences of sexual harassment in Türkiye, co-authored with Esra Emir and Canan Koca.
