Rwanda opens a 16-team African men's handball championship
The continental championship began with five places at the 2027 IHF Men's World Championship available.

Sixteen national teams entered the 27th African Men's Handball Championship in Rwanda. The field included Algeria, Angola, Cape Verde, Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria, Tunisia and the host nation among teams from across the continent.
The event carried a dual purpose: continental medals and qualification for the 2027 IHF Men's World Championship. Egypt entered with the opportunity to draw level with Tunisia's record of ten titles, a target it ultimately reached on 31 January.
